What we do » Emergency Dental Training

More than 70% of the world's population have no access to the simplest of dental pain relief, leaving billions to face a daily battle with pain in the toughest of life circumstances.

Bridge2Aid was founded as a response to this terrifying problem, by providing access to dental pain relief and to help the millions of people suffering in the developing world. Bridge2Aid is the UK’s fastest growing UK dental charity working in developing nations.

In Tanzania since 2002, Bridge2Aid has worked tirelessly to increase access to pain relief. Focussing on sustainability and empowering local people to improve their own lives over the long term, Bridge2Aid has trained over 170 local health workers in emergency dentistry, and now train more than 48 health workers each year with plans for expansion. This training has not only directly treated tens of thousands of people but has also extended access to emergency dentistry services to people living in the rural areas. An estimated 1.7 million people now live within reach of someone who can help them when they have dental pain.

This training has not only directly treated tens of thousands of people but has also extended access to emergency dentistry services to people living in the rural areas. An estimated 1.6 million people now live within reach of someone who can help them when they have dental pain.

The training includes

1) 3 days of Theoretical Preparation given by the District Dental Officers.

2) 6 days of one on one Practical Training given by teams of UK volunteers during Dental Volunteer Programmes (DVP)

Taking part in a DVP is a life-changing experience. If you have one years' post-graduate experience, you could apply to be a part of an upcoming DVP. Experienced dental nurses are also encouraged to apply as they play a vital role in the delivery of the programme.

For more information click here to visit our DVP page. To receive an application form in the post, or for answers to specific questions, please email Ruth Bowyer, our Visits Co-ordinator, or telephone her on 07748 643006. Written enquiries/completed forms should be sent to the Bridge2Aid office.
