After qualifying from
Bristol
in 1964,
Alan
has worked in GDS, CDS and Hospital service. He and his wife
Judith
(also a dentist) set up the Diocese of Maseno Dental Clinic at
Kisumu
,
Kenya
and worked there from 1965 to 1969. He is a Life Vice-President of the Christian Dental Fellowship and an Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health. He regularly lectures on Health and Safety, Clinical Governance, Clinical Photography and developing an Evidence-based approach to practice. He is the Chairman of the Evidence-based Dentistry Centre at
Oxford
and founding Editor of the Journal of Evidence-based Dentistry.
Alan
has been the Department of Health's Retaining and Returning Adviser for UK Dentists working overseas on the Keeping in Touch Scheme from 2001 to 2006. He is a licensed lay minister in the Anglican Church, a Life Member of the BDA and Past President and an Honorary member of the British Association for the Study of Community Dental Health (BASCD).
Alan
was made an OBE in the 1999 New Year’s Honours list for services to Community Dental Health. He and
Judith
have a son,
John
, who is a mathematician and a daughter,
Mary
, who is a psychiatrist. This keeps him numerate and sane! |
