Bukumbi Diary - August 2007
14th August 2007
Our monthly planning meeting was meant to happen this morning but for reasons I can’t establish it didn’t! John Simba and I went ready with a long list of actions from the last meeting and points to discuss only to find no one else there except Mr Bundala (centre manager) so we had an informal meeting with him. Most of it spent encouraging him to utilise his staff so that they can assist the men in Sijaona block in washing their sheets. He is optimistic that he will be able to solve the problem in the near future. We want to carry out a fumigation on the building as the cockroaches have found their way back in even though the building is clean and so have asked that all the sheets are cleaned before we do this so as to not bring any bugs back in! We are hoping this will happen soon.

Whilst the ‘small’ meeting was taking place friends of ours and their 3 kids held an impromptu time of play with the kids who were around the centre. About 20 kids came and joined in and played skipping games, football and chase. It was great to see the kids all having fun together. The older boys loved playing football and have asked if they can have one on site that they can use for a regular kick around. Vumi (the lady with the possible cancer on her face) condition has worsened since I last saw her and the area on her face that is affected has grown in size. She has already been referred to the hospital but they sent her away again and she isn’t in a position to fight for her self and peruse the necessary treatment so this week John is going to take her back and try to get her a referral to Dar es Salaam for a full review.
