What We Do
Bukumbi Diary January 2010
8th January
The first week of the new year brings with it uniforms, shoes, exercise books, matresses, hoes, brushes and a torch! Yes its the time that we get the children ready to go back to school. The primary children return next week and the sponsored students are preparing to return in the next 2 weeks.
We are very pleased with the Standard 7 students, 2 of the girls are off to to secondary school and 2 others are off to study carpentry and sewing. A great start to the new year seeing children ready and willing to learn! Lamecki and William were very excited to recieve their equipment for Form 2. (FD)
13th January
After a month away it was great to get back to Bukumbi today to greet the community, Amit and Bindi Maisuria, who are volunteering with Bridge2Aid for a month, came along too. My own Christmas celebrations were spent with family in the UK remembering the significance of the festive season and enjoying spending time together. In stark contrast when I asked how the community at Bukumbi had spent their Christmas, they looked puzzled as if the season had passed them by completely. It reminded me how our western lives revolve around events and planning, whereas village life often drifts by from day to day with few events to demark one from another. (AW)
