Without donations from people like you, we can’t carry on doing what we do with the people of Mwanza.
Your money goes a very long way in Tanzania, and you can rest assured that as a small and highly focused registered charity, the funds you give will be used well.

Here are some examples of just how useful your donation will be: |
£1 - pays for medicines to help treat the effects of leprosy for a resident at Bukumbi. Although medicines are commonly available and cheap by UK standards, they are often beyond the reach of the residents, many of whom live on way below the one dollar a day poverty line.

£2 - pays for screening, pain relieving dental treatment and oral health education for a schoolchild in Mwanza. There is currently virtually no oral health education available to Tanzania's children. 99% have never visited a dentist and consequently suffer from rampant tooth decay. Your donation will relieve the pain and lay foundations for a positive future.

£4 - funds a filling at Hope Dental Centre for a child from one of Mwanza's orphanages or HIV outreach projects. HDC offers a heavily subsidised service to these projects, and helps to maintain the children's oral health, a vital part of their general wellbeing.

£10 - provides a microfinance loan to a member of the street community to help them establish a means of generating income. Our Community Development team works alongside each individual to assist them in getting started and making sure the money is used effectively.

£25 - funds dental treatment of 40 people who attend one of our rural 'Tooth Camps'. These events serve to provide free treatment to the rural population (90% of Tanzanians) and also train rural clinical officers in safe extraction techniques. Without this service and the training it provides, rural Tanzanians have virtually no access to safe dentistry, and can suffer dental pain for weeks, months or even years.

£72 - buys a water pump to raise collected rainwater to a storage tank at Bukumbi, part of a project which will ensure a constant supply of water for the residents.
£130 - pays the monthly wages and transport costs for a Community Development worker at Bukumbi. Our team are involved in day to day work with the community which is vital for the long term aims of the project.

£205 - buys a basic dental instrument kit and steriliser for a clinical officer who successfully completes our emergency dentistry course. Each clinical officer is responsible for 7,000-15,000 people, and the instrument kit combined with our training makes safe emergency care available to them in their locality week in week out.

£360 - pays for a dental therapist and nurse to staff our Mobile Dental Unit, which tours Mwanza's schools providing free screening, treatment and oral health education.

£1200 - refurbishes one dormitory room at Bukumbi. Each room is home to at least 4 people, many of whom suffer from leprosy or disabilities. Having a clean, safe environment to live in is crucial for them in managing and preventing the deterioration of their disease.
