A volunteer locum period at Hope Dental Centre is a truly worthwhile experience. We require locum cover for several periods each year (see below for the current list of dates. The centre operates commercially, charging fees to patients. This charging structure allows us to not only fund the resident dentist's salary and our regular running costs, but also generates a surplus which is vital to the charitable work of Bridge2Aid in Mwanza. |
Locum dentists cover the costs of their own flights, visas, anti-malarials and travel insurance. Accommodation, food (except meals out) and transportation around Mwanza are provided. The clinic is open 5 days a week, with 10-15 patients a day. The covering dentist also flies by light aircraft regularly to work in the dental clinic at one of the rural mining communities - quite an adventure - and is also involved in providing care for Mwanza schoolchildren in our Ford Transit mobile surgery. You will need to be flexible and relaxed in your approach, and un-fazed by equipment which in true African style often develops a mind of its own!
With the Serengeti national park only 2 hours drive away, this opportunity balances excellent recreation with serving the needs of the charity. A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience is required.
